Ok, I ran the rootkit scan, and it found 10 problems.  However, when I saved the results to text, it got all jumbled up.  I will rescan and post the results later.

I seem to have found what may be the cause.  I have an external harddrive(pininfarina simpletech 80 gb), and I have noticed that when I attach it to my laptop, the sounds and the touchpad hang up about every 15 seconds.  I am not sure what the cause can be, as it has always worked fine in the past.  I can still access it, however, it makes it unbearable to use the computer.
