As a general rule an AT power supply will not work on an ATX mobo. You can get a 250W ATX power supply for $20-25 at CompUSA, and even cheaper on the Internet. If her power supply got fried, the mobo may be history as well. With the new power supply, especially if you buy it at CompUSA or a similar local brick and mortar store, you can try it out to see if the mobo still works, and if it doesn't you can return it for a 15% restocking fee ($5.00 or less). If they won't take it back you can keep it for the rebuild (new mobo and power supply). Either way you aren't on the hook for much dough.

>RZ> Can I use a power supply from a old AT p200 (output 200W), in a fairly new ATX(?) HP? Are the connectors to the mother board and drives the same?

>RZ> A friend has a "HP Pavilion XL844" computer she bought a year ago. This weekend we had a thunder storm and when she got home her computer would not work. It was plugged in to the wall power

>RZ> When you turn it on nothing happens, the fan does not work, no lights. The monitor goes on but just stays black. Ive told her its proably no good but she wants me to look at it any way. My
>RZ> first thought is the power supply must be bad. My question is can I take the power supply from an old AT machine (p200) that I have and use it in her ATX machine? Her power supply reads "output
>RZ> 185W", my old one says "200W". Thank you.
