At this point David Williams made an astute observation by recommending
that you replace the drive. I am in favor of his diagnosis.

I have found that any time I have a problem with a floppy being read,
the first thing I will do is run the floppy through a diagnostic utility
like Norton Disk Doctor to see if the problem is the disk or possible
the drive itself. If you receive a message telling you that the system
can't read from the drive, I would change out the drive and see if that
will help.

In this game of computers, there is sometimes no cut and dry guidelines.
The best that I have found is the process of elimination.

If you are fortunate enough to have a spare machine or a friend that
wouldn't mind letting you borrow his/her drive, go for it. When it comes
to computers, ask any tech and he/she will tell you that you have to
have redundant equipment. Like a commercial airliner, the pilot's don't
rely upon just one set of instruments.

In my business, I have, over the years, gathered various pieces of
hardware for testing purposes. <smile> I upgrade my system and in turn
upgrade my test hardware.
