I have an IBM Aptiva model 2140 L31. It came with Windows 95 and I upgraded it to Windows 98 SE. When running a long time with no mouse activity, a banner comes up saying "please wait while your computer prepares for standby" The banner stays, the program keeps running. Eventually, it freezes. There was nothing in the reference guide about standby but I know it came with other Aptivas. I suspect that some standby software is running but some software or hardware is not there. Standby does not appear in settings / control panel / power management. How can I stop it from calling on standby?
