I've interspersed my answers with the questions.

You don't mention whether you did run the Network wizard on your Win98
machine (the one XP tells you to make on a floppy when you are setting the
network up on XP).
I did run the wizard (By now I have run it several times). I finally found
the "Internet Gateway" Icon in Accessories/Communications. This points to
icsdclt.dll in Windows/System, and clicking it gives "Windows did not find
an Internet gateway on your computer". The file is in place.

Computers have a tendency to make us all feel a little ignorant at times,
cause they just don't do what they are supposed to do, but glad to hear you
are determined.
I have now been through this process several times in detail, including
checking several web pages, and I find that the rarest thing is clear,
concise instructions. The XP help file is actually wrong in a couple of
places.

I too, had to do some messing around to get things working, but you are able
to connect to the internet with the Host(xp) machine, right?
Yes. I am using the XP Host to send this email.
And you are able to ping both machines?
Yes.

What are the Ip addresses you used?
The host is 192.168.0.1
Client ( I assume this is assignes by DHCP) is 192.168.0.32
IPconfig on host gives:
Ethernet adapter My Network:

        Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
        IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1
        Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
        Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . :

PPP adapter My Erols:

        Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
        IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 208.58.216.222
        Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.255
        Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 208.58.216.222
IPconfig on client gives:

Ethernet adapter:

        IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.32
        Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
        Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1

Can you check to see what settings are on the Win98 machine in your Network
folder...specifically on the IP Address tab
"Obtain an IPaddress automatically"
the DNS config tab
"Enable DNS", "DNS server search order 192.168.0.1"

the Gateway tab
All entries are blank. I have tried this with 192.168.0.1 added, and had no
success.

and the WINS Config tab
All blank except "Use DHCP for WINS resolution".

Also, go to a command prompt on the XP machine and type 'ipconfig' (no
quotes). What is the IP address for the Lan (Local Area Connection)?
See above.

Thanks for any help you can give. I've tried just about everything I can
find and grow ever more convinced that there is a problem I haven't
uncovered.
