PCBUILD Digest - 25 Sep 2002 to 26 Sep 2002 (#2002-270)I am trying to use Ranish Partition Manger to edit / arrange partition records in a hard disk. Now I quite often use this program to adjust partitions and etc.

But in this particular hard disk, the changes made by Ranish Partition Manager are not being saved even though it says changes were saved. When I restart the machine (and the program), the changes made are not there.

I was working in pure DOS prompt (booted from a floppy disk) so there's no possibilty that windows could have prevented writing.

I am trying to fix the hdd after the client lost his D drive mysteriousely.

What could prevent writing to MBR and partition table by such 'powerful' utilities ? Ranish Partition Manager is my favorite tool and had never failed to write changes to MBR/partition table in other HDDs.

Could it be due to some BIOS setting or virus ?
