If you're going to use 10BaseT NIC's and a single cable, you have to get a
special network cable called (I think) a crossover cable. A better solution
is to get a hub (less than $50) so you can use normal network patch cables
and if you need to eventually hook a third or more computer in, you just
patch them into the hub.

If you are using Coax (BNC connectors), you need a "T" connector on each
machine and a terminator on the unused side of the T.

If you just want to hook two computers together with a single wire, you may
be well served with a serial "null modem" cable.
