My understanding is that if a surge protector takes a hit it should be replaced.  The manufacturer's warranty, including equipment replacement, dies after a hit.  Kind of like a motorcycle helmet.  Once a helmet hits the concrete, regardless of how good it looks afterward, it should be replaced.  After a hit you'd have no way of knowing if the surge protector could still function.
