Your DSL connection is meant to be a <always on> broadband connection.
Unless you are assigned a fixed IP address, you are being assigned a IP
address dynamically, and you may loose that IP address when you turn your
modem off and on. You may also be reassigned an IP address even with it on,
but this doesn't happen too often.
