Thanks Joe,

Prior to installing SP2, I loaded a Win98 boot disk to check device manager
that everything was working, checked the Microsoft website for problems with
my hardware and reflashed my BIOS with the latest version. I was running SP1
on this system before the rebuild and the only major items added were the
new 360W Antec power supply, 100 GB WD hard drive and ATI Radeon 7200
graphics adapter.

Everything seemed to go smoothly with the install but the LAN and USB are
still refusing to cooperate. I checked the BIOS setup to make sure that
those onboard periphials are enabled.

My best bet is probably to try and find a original working XP disk and leave
my upgrades alone after SP1.

Thanks again,

Larry

Hi,

Welcome to the real world.

Before you used SP2 did you:
1) check the MS website for known problmes - see if there was any issues
with your hardware?
2) update your main boards BIOS for the latest edition?

Also, how do you expect an upgrade to work properly if it is not actually
upgrading from a known good working system?
Did you load the different Drivers for the main board to set all the devices
up?

SP2 is an upgrade to software, not hardware. Hardware is something you have
to check on.

Thanks and have a Great Day!

Joe Lore

I just completed a new build with some old parts but now I have a problem.
My Windows XP disk must be corrupt because it keeps giving
UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME errors during installation, so I was able to
download the SP2 disk from Microsoft that my CD key works for. My USB ports
are now dead and I can't connect with the onboard LAN.

The motherboard is a Biostar M7VIG Pro with an Athlon 2000+ processor. Can
someone explain how to get all my hardware working again.

I thought SP2 was suppose to be an upgrade!
