Problem is that you need to have an uncorrupted back up. That every time
you start up it repairs the registry says the back up is screwed up as well.
Ultimately, to make that message go away you may well need to reinstall, but
if everything works after the reg repair message, either leave it running
24X7, or get used to seeing it.

Subject: Re: [PCBUILD] System Registry Error

> I am encountering an error message when booting up Windows 98 that reads,
"Windows Registry Checker, Windows Encountered an Error Accessing the System
Registry. Windows will Restart and Repair the System Registry for You."
The system shuts down and restarts. This has happened everyday for the past
4 days when booting up. Do I need to reinstall the OS?
Try Ultimate Boot disk its free and makes replacing backup copies of your
registry very easy. Also it will give you the ability to have a greater log
of backups than the standard that you get with windows normally
