Is it for video assist, or will be play a more integral part of
production?  I've neither seen nor heard of home-brewed systems such as
what you desire.  But there are luggables (or lunchboxes) that probably
suits your needs.  Lot larger than laptop, but still portable, and with
expansion (PCI, ISA) slots for add-in cards.  Here's one link to what I

Or consider this:  http://www.cappuccinopc.com/cappuccinogx1.asp  (or the
other units there; best processor is a P3 1Ghz though)  Smaller than
laptop, little expansion, no built-in display, but kinda cool.
