Barry's reply to James' post prompts me to ask a question that's puzzled me
for a while - just which components in the Power Supply box are the ones to
avoid touching?  And how long does it take for them to bleed away their
charge?  I understand that under the right (or wrong!) conditions, they can
deliver quite a hefty belt if you're not careful.

inspect the soldered side very carefully with a magnifying glass. Any joints
that are not smooth, clean solder or appear to have a circle around where
the wire projects through, should be remade. once that is done, give it a
try, it should be working OK, if not, it's probably a component at fault and
will require the attention of a service technician.
