My daughter was telling me that her printer, an HP 682 inkjet type,
would skip characters every once in a while. (Eg., when printing "paper
plates" it would print "pa er lates". She tried cleaning it and even
put in a new cartridge - with no good fortune to correcting the problem.

So now I wonder if the problem is maybe NOT in the printer. Has anyone
run across something like this?

(P.S. the printer is over 900 miles away, so I do not have ready access
to it. I do know that the 'puter is a Pkrd Bomb and the puter, cord and
printer have been in the same spot for over a year without being moved.)
