A friend reports that sometimes when he boots his laptop...just after
the memory check....he gets a message saying 'KB/interface error...press
F1 to resume.'

If he presses F1, sometimes everything works OK : at other times he gets
a message saying the mouse is not inserted - (when it is) - and if he
wants he can attach one now.

In the latter event he has to power down and reboot. Usually, after
maybe two of three attempts at this, he will boot up successfully.

He's tried a different mouse, in case the problem is there, but that
hasn't helped.

The laptop is about three years old and has worked reliably so far.

Coincidentally, in trying to fix this problem, he ran Scandisk but finds
that whilst he can scan his A drive, his C drive is blocked and he has
to power down.

Don't know if the two problems are related or separate.

Any takers ?
