Most newer computers have a primary and secondary channel to allow for up
to four (4) ide/eide devices.  My interpretation of (guess at?) the meaning
of
this message is that the CD-RW is on the same IDE channel as the hard disk.
It is usually better to position the jumper on the CD-RW to make it a slave
(most
housings are marked to facilitate this), and attach its data cable to the
secondary IDE channel connection on the motherboard.
While technically this channel is (I believe) still on the same system bus,
the difference in channel might be all that is needed to resolve your
situation.
