Sorry, I was referring to the thermal diode built into the PIII, below, in
case anyone was wondering what the heck a memory probe is. Asus's software
for monitoring the cpu's temperature does supply temperature information,
and the numbers seem to go up and down in the manner expected when comparing
the processor at idle to when it is under load, but the scale seems to be
about 24 deg C or 44 deg F too low. The temperature can also be read in the
BIOS, but the cpu numbers are off there too, by a different factor.

To pick up on Bill Cohane's observation that the 815 only officially
supports 2 memory modules at 133 mhz, I think the Asus CUSL2 version that
I'm using has incorporated something to get around this limitation. In any
case the manual makes no mention of being limited to only two modules when
using PC-133 memory, and the AnandTech review of this particular motherboard
states that it did not show any limitations using 3 PC133 modules. Still
the point made is a good one, and I had overlooked it, since it is not
mentioned in my mb's manual.

I don't think Intel was involved in the creation of the PC133 standard,
unlike the PC100 standard, because their focus was on RAMBUS, and I wonder
if we are seeing the fallout from this.
