New PC won't play audio CD

I just put together the following basic system:

AMD K6-2-350 and 64 meg on Gigabyte 5AX MoBo(Rev 4)
Fujitsu 10.2 Gig HDD,FDD
Sound Blaster AWE64
ATI 8 Meg Expert98
LG 32X CD-rom
Running Win98

Every thing works great except it hangs when CD audio programs from
win98 load. The CDdrive will play VCD, data CD no problem, it even play
audio CD when hook up to a different machine. I have clean install win98
twice and no fix. Whats incompatiable here? TIA
