I beg to differ here, the pin layout would be the same on newer cables and
boards.

Find out what kind of cable and port settings your printer needs. Sometimes this
happens when the printer requires a Bi-Directioanl parallel cable and it does not
have one, or it needs the EPP or ECP setting in CMOS.
