Open the case and make sure that all the cables are secure in their
sockets - at the board and at the hd and CD-ROM. They may have loosened
during shipping. Also check that the power connector iss all the way in on
the hard drive (and everything else, too). After doing this then boot and
try fdisk again.

At this point, if you get the same message, I would say the HD is not
powering up and may be bad.
