If you CAREFULLY checked the cable and connections, then more than likely, the
drive controller on the MB is dead. It is possible, however that a simpler
problem may exist, perhaps the power supply to the disk is bad. The red wire
should have +5V when measured to black, and the yellow should be +12V. If one or
both were bad, the disk may not be recognized. Does the disk spin up? If the
+12V supply were bad in general, the computer may still POST in the setup
screen, since it doesn't need +12V to run, but the disk definitely needs +12V
for the spindle motor.
