I just purchased a gq 3131. Amd sampron processor, 256
mb ram, 40 gb harddrive. It had linspire, and I
installed win me. Lately it has been periodically
shutting down for no reason. 

If you wait a few minutes, and restart it, it is fine,
but I'm not sure what is going on with it.

Can it be overheating, or would it be something else?
