I don't know about the Fantom or My Book. I looked at them and wasn't
impressed. My experience with 8 different external enclosures has
been -- as one would expect -- you get what you pay for. I have had 4
drives in enclosures where the data became inaccessible. I had the
choice of either reformatting or to taking them out of the enclosure
and install them internally (where they worked fine).

I recommend GOOD drives in GOOD, heat-dissipating (aluminum) external
enclosures. Last week I compared all options, read a load of consumer
comments and ended up with a 4th USB Adaptec case and a 500GB Seagate
drive, bought separately. One can put these things together in 30
seconds. They run quietly, are pretty fast (although not a fast as
the 1394a), and the case is barely warm to the touch after running
non-stop for 7 days. I have seen Adaptec ACS-100s for as little as
$25.00 (shipping included) on eBay and 400GB Seagate drives for $130.
