You didn't say if you were using wireless or a cable from a router. My Vista wireless connection stops working frequently. The "Diagnose and repair" tool has always got it running again. Try right clicking the connection icon in the lower right part of your screen. Look for a "Diagnose and repair" choice. You probably need to give more details for more help.
