That is a good suggestion. However, the HP printer drivers are designed to
directly communicate with the printer, which is impossible over a network
(at least any network with some amount of security). The driver knows it's
a networked printer, but there are still problems and occasional bugs that
show up. Probably due to lax programming techniques or a design
implementation based on the printer only being designed for the "home user".

Subject: Re: [PCBUILD] Printer Sharing

Here is a suggestion to the problem of printer sharing. I haven't tried it
with HP printers, so I don't know for sure if it will work, but if the
HP printer driver insists on wanting to print to lpt1, then let it. To get
it to forward to a network printer, open the properties for the printer,
click on the "Details" tab, and select "Capture Printer Port". This will
make
the driver think it is printing to lpt1, but by entering the network path
to the actual location, Windows 95 will re-direct it to the network printer.

This has worked for me for other types of printers (most useful when you
need
to make a DOS application in a DOS box or full screen DOS session print to
a network printer).
