We are receiving an error message when trying to print from one workstation
to a Xerox WorkCentre XK50cx color multi-function device shared from another
workstation on our Win98 network. The error message appears on the sharing
station and is to the effect that the computer cannot write to LPT1. We
inquired of Xerox on this matter and the response was as follows:

In response to your message the machine you are referring to is not able to
be
to Networked. It is a GDI printer and it is meant to be used by a single
PC.
The device receives all print commands from the Windows system files and
depends
on those commands for all functions.

Printer sharing on a network is an option included by Microsoft in several
Windows operating systems. For more information and support on printer
sharing,
        please go to http://support.microsoft.com/directory/.

Can't say that I ever have heard of a GDI printer, but I do know that we
successfully share a bunch of old Epsons on this network that are of DOS
vintage. Actually, I always thought that a printer share was an OS function
and, thus, should just work in Win98. Does anyone know what we might do to
get this device functioning on this network?
