Ok things are getting really bad now. I have gotten some good advise but may not be able to throughly check it. The RAM was what was in the old machine is now in the new machine(2 x 128 sdram) I had some other RAM chips (3 - 64 meg sdram chips) I tried each one individually. I still get windows locking up. I also did a change on the bios to a fail-safe setting no real change. I still can't get windows to load on the test hard drive. I am only running this with a diamond stealth 64 pci video card and nothing else. I am going to get another copy of win 98se and try that. But I find it hard to belive that it would be a software issue. The bios has now also started doing something wierd it will cycle thru the intial memorey check 4 times before it stops I have tried this with each memorey chip and get the same thing except that appears to cycle twice for each memorey chip installed. I haven't given up yet but I got stop using my laptop like this. It would be much nicer to write a letter from my newly built PC. Keep those ideas coming I have even have used up most of the pencil erasers in the house. I don't have a WinNT setup but I have several different RAM chips I tried with same results. It's not a matrox vid card but a diamond Stealth 64. I don'thave a PCcheck floppy, advice on where I can get one would be helpful. Advice on not losing my mind would be helpful.
