  My Dad helps run a program through the church he attends, that
pairs at-risk teenagers with volunteers (mostly retirees with a
technical bent).  The volunteer mentors the kid through refurbishing
a discarded/donated obsolete PC to where it's reasonably
current/useful; kids who successfully complete the program get to
keep the computer.
