Hi all,

my earlier post dt. Tuesday, August 07, 2007 10:39:31 AM (clipped)

<<<< very, very interesting thread and hope a solution emerges (self interest!!)>>>>

well i have found out (at least i seem to have) the problem in my (usb case enclosed ) HDD detection by win xp pro.

in my case both the drives (the one FROM which data had to be transferred AND the one TO which data had to be transferred) had win xp pro on them.

so i thought the o/s was getting confused and causing problems.

to verify this, i simply took out the HDD from the case and connected a dvd rom.

the mismatch, in the physical dimensions of the hdd usb case and the dvd rom drive did not hinder, since i just connected the interface cable and power cable to the dvd rom and left it outside the case.

bingo..... new hardware found/usb device/dvdrom/ your new hardware installed and ready to use.

sure enough, "my computer" showed up the dvd rom drive with a new drive letter.

i do not know whether this will be of any help.... but still...
