A friend of mine just got a new laptop that came with XP Home. Older
machines on their network can see its shares, but it doesn't see any other
machines in the workgroup.

Apparently when first set upp, it offered a chance to make a floppy that
could be used to update Win 98 machines. But

(a) there's no floppy drive on the laptop

(b) one of the machines that can't see it is a Linux box running Samba

The preferred solution would be to configure the new machine to see the
others. It might be acceptable, though, to manually FTP the necessary files
to another machine to allow a version of that floppy to be created.
  Anybody already solved this one?
