A year or two ago I installed new "BIOS" on an ASUS motherboard. I could not get it to work using the supplied ASUS software, but
people on the user site strongly advised me against using the ASUS software utility and suggested that I use the flash utility on
the motherboard. When I did that, the new BIOS took. I am not sure whether or not this advice applies to your particular
motherboard, but you can investigate it further.

The drivers, of course, are another thing.

I had no problem with the ASUS web site in finding the correct BIOS and drivers - perhaps because my motherboard was newer. (?)

I used to be a big fan of ASUS, but their new BIOS that I installed on my computer changed the IP address of the motherboard. When
I installed them on my wife's computer with the same model mb, they changed her ip address, too, to the SAME one as mine!!! Since
then, I have not been so big a fan of ASUS.

HTH a little,

Dean Kukral

I did all that, but the drivers indicated at the Asus site wouldn't
install. There seem to be numerous different drivers for this particular
mobo and no indication which are the right ones. It doesn't seem to be a
VIA chipset.

Is it possible that the original mobo chipset was replaced at some time by
another chipset?
