BIOS Limitations?

I just got ahold of an old P120 and installed Win98 SE on it.  When I tried
to instal a modem I kept getting these errors:
1) "Failed to call EnumProPages in modemui.dll"
2) "Cannot read Port name from Registry"

COM2 is set at IRQ 3 (like it's supposed to be).
Is this due to some kind of limitations within the BIOS?  The BIOS that's in
there right now is an AWARDS v4.51PG PnP BIOS Extention v1.04A.  If anyone
has any ideas on how to fix this problem, I'd be greatful.
