HI! I just buyed a new NetGear FVS318 router on Ebay and cant get it to
work. I went to the NetGear web site and discover that there are 3
version. They tell that the serial number should tell which version I
have but the serial number has noting to do with what the said and the
serial number is a sticker glued on the case. So I couldn't be sure what
version I have.

I have made all the connection needed. Connect the cable between the
DSL Modem (SpeedStream 5200), a cable between the computer and the
router, power up the router. I used the CD that came with and my
browser opened with some kind of menu with instructions to follow. I
failed to access the modem both with 192.168.0.1 and with
www.routerlogin.net. There was only a time where i successfully access
the router and got a message that the protocol was identified. I could
not remember if that was PPPoE or other but after that nothing more.

Cd that came with the router is labeled "FVS318v3.0", html
documentation only tell of v3 and contain 2 firmware for v3 only. I
guest the CD that came with is not necessary the on that should be. I
also tryed to reset the router but that seem not to do better.

Could someone explain to me what could I do?

My INternet subscriber service is Sympatico. I have A Compaq P III
1000Mh, 512 Meg Ram, 20Gig HD, Windows 2000.

Best regards
Thanks
