To work best and stay fast, they need special OS support.
ZERO (or maybe less) defrags would be an example off
the top on my head.
They are solid state flash drives, and they wear out from writes...
I'd say (again) to follow my links and brush up on this.
This is cutting edge technology and needs special support...

In my system, the OS boots about twice as fast as it does with standard HD. The SSD is still rather expensive, but prices are coming 
down. Do note that there are big differences in speed of writing between the SSD devices. Check the specs before buying.
