Refresh rate on full screen MS-DOS under W98

I have display card, ATI RagePro (Xpert Pro), and it doesn't come with
drivers for MS-DOS. On Win98 it is set to 85Hz vertical frequency.
But when I use console mode (i.e. open an MS-DOS, in full screen
mode inside Win98), the refresh rate goes down to 72Hz and on some
SVGA programs, to 60Hz.
Do I need an MS-DOS driver, or that there is something generic that I
miss. e.g. some configuration that I should do in the autoexec.bat or
config.sys?

If it is relevant, the monitor is Mag XJ500T.
