If you use WinXp or Win 2k then look is it visible
under Disk Management (Control Panel ->
Administrative Tools -> Computer Management ->
Storage ) If isn't drive is dead. I have seen this once
but drive was replaced because it was 5 year warranty.
Mostly problems are with drive letter under WinXP.
WinXP memorizes drive letter and device if you use
another drive from another manufacturer then there
is sometimes some conflicts. I set my basic thumb
drive to T:  and have no problems since then.
