This keeps coming up periodically, so it must be a fairly common problem
with XP. When you re-installed XP, it apparently did not detect your
hardware as being APCI compliant. The version of the kernel that is
installed depends on the hardware power management capabilities. Here is
some information that I posted a little while ago which may help you:

Apparently your installation did not detect the power management capability
of your BIOS. Be sure that your CMOS settings are indeed configured to
support APCI.

There is a way to change the XP HAL (the main kernel of the OS). While I
have manually done this, it is not recommended. The proper procedure is to
go through another install, but press the F5 key during the initial
installation startup. This will allow you to select the appropriate HAL. See
