A lot depends on the wiring to your house!  I was getting 33.6K very nicely
with a 33.6 modem, but then it began to derade over a period of months to
just 14.4!!!  Found out water had corroded some wiring connections once that
was fixed I was back to 33.6 the same day!  You can have your phone co check
your lines for you
