Ian,

Genenerally laptops are slower.

Some reasons:
They normally have hard disks that run 4200 rpm or so, while desktop disks
run at 5400 rpm, or newer ones at 7200 rpm.
The processor is often a "portable" version which consumes less power but is
often slower.
RAM for laptops is more expensive so laptops tend to be less well equipped
with RAM. Her 32 MB is not much.

My advice: Run disk defragmentation software (first make sure there is at
least 20% free storage on each partition). Get some more RAM.

Good luck!

| A customer asked me to look at her Acer Travelmate 507DX

| It's a Celeron 466 with 32Mb ram and a coupla gigs free HDD space. I'm
| running it on mains power.
|
| Should this machine run as fast as it's desktop equivalent,
| all other things being equal?
