This may not apply to your situation, but may help others
I ran into a problem with two different Vista computers
 dropping connection to the DSL modem when
waking from standby (sleep)
after rebooting the DSL modem, the connection worked,
but client had to reboot the modem every time the computer woke from sleep 
mode.
has to do with losing the default gateway
M$ article and patches for 32 bit and 64 bit versions of Vista here:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/933872/en-us
the patch fixed the problem on both computers I worked on.
