PCBUILD Digest - 23 Dec 2001 to 24 Dec 2001 (#2001-352)Hi again,

In a different computer - CD-ROM needed replacement - wasn't reading CDs.

The new CD drive was Samsung 52x. I connected this CD drive in place of the old one - slave with master HDD on IDE1. Now this CD drive is detected alright by the BIOS but doesn't come up in Windows 98 - its as if its not there.

Now I connect the CD-drive to a separate IDE cable (IDE2) and its fine.

What could be the problem ? Changing cables, reinstalling IDE controller drivers etc didn't work. It worked only after giving it a separte channel (IDE2). But the old drive (Creative) worked just fine with the HDD on the same cable.
