If it has been installed as a generic 28800 modem you probably want to change the driver to the one specifically for the MT2834BL modem.  You can get it from here:

You will have register (free) to download the driver though.

So I configured it that way, however when dialing you can hear the modem is trying to dial by tones, not pulses.  Of course there is an error because the line doesnt support tone dialing.
