I would try changing IRQ9 to ISA / legacy in your CMOS BIOS setup
so that the video card could not grab it when plug and play
assignments are done. I don't like taking "brute force" measures,
but this seems workable. The elegant solution would be find out
why the Adaptec card can't be changed.

I have had interesting results by changing the CMOS setting
"Plug and Play OS?" to yes or no. See if one or the other
setting fixes things. David Gillette's suggestion of moving
PCI cards could also help. As for mixing IDE and SCSI,
I have done that many times and have never had to do
anything special. I have had trouble with a Diamond video
card conflicting with a cheap sound card for an IRQ. I
removed the sound card.

I have a little problem with my new Adaptec 2940U2W SCSI
adapter. Both drives are shown during bootup. So that part is fine except
that Windows doesn't show the drives.
In the 2940's utility the BIOS shows a IRQ9 and cannot be change in the
utility. In Windows when I click on
Properties, then Resources the IRQ setting shows 11 and I was able to
change it to 9 in safe mode. But, My video card, a Viper 550 has IRQ 9
and I can't change it to 11
in Normal or Safe Mode. I need to change something, either video card
IRQ or the Adeptec BIOS IRQ. All other IRQs are being used. HELP
PLEASE!!!!!
