On a simple lan of 2 machines both running Windows 2000 pro, one machine can
share files and printers, but the other can't. There are no firewalls
installed. What we see from one machine in "Network Neighborhood" is all
the shares of the other machine and they can be accessed. From the other
machine(the one able to share resources) the view in "Network Neighborhood"
in "computers near me" the other machine is visible, but when we try to
access shares, a menu appears asking for a logon name and password. If one
is given, the shares can be accessed, but the other machine doesn't need any
logon procedure to use the files or printers. There is no place in the
sharing of files and printers to assign passwords, and the files and
printers are shared the same way on both machines. Does anyone have any
idea what needs to be changed of the machine that can't share its resources?
Have looked in the policies, and both machines appear the same, but not
really a network guru. THX
