a current "state of the art" PC would be (if you want a single CPU system):

The fastest P4 CPU at 533mhz bus (133x4) + ASUS mobo (I still couldn't trust
Gigabyte) with pair of PC1066 RAMBUS RAM + nVidia Geforce4 Ti4600 video +
ultra 160 SCSI card & 15000rpm SCSI HDDs.

for dual CPU system:

Dual AMD MP 2000+ with fastest possible DDR RAM + Geforce4 Ti4600 + ultra
320 SCSI (64bit PCI) card and 15000rpm SCSI HDDs.
