I'm using PC100 memory (8ns, I think); The problem seems to be in voltage
regulation. I started at the default 2.0v (4.5x100) and the machine wouldn't
even POST; then I upped the voltage (via the "nail polish" method) by blocking
the contacts on three of the CPU's connectors to force it to 2.2v. Made it
through POST that time, just wouldn't boot into the OS (Win98); Finally I tried
2.4v, booted into Win98 once then crashed with subsequent crashes on each
attempt. I'm too nervous to try any higher voltage and I don't really like
putting finger nail polish on my CPU (LIST DISCLAIMER: I am NOT recommending
anyone do this; if you attempt to overclock--learn what to do and what not to do
and be prepared to take full responsibilities for your actions). I've heard
others say they have had success with the BH6 when there was none with the P2B
(and vice versa, BTW). One advantage I see with the BH6 is the ability to step
the voltage by 0.05v increments in the SoftMenu which allows you to test
stability with the minimal amount of voltage you need. With the P2B I'm stuck
with 0.20v increments (using the tab covering method). I'd prefer to have the
ASUS as I have built a lot of systems with their boards and respect their
stability and speed; but I think I'm going to give the ABIT a shot. It will be
interesting to see the results. Worst case scenario is I'm 'stuck' with only a
300MHz Celeron A. I can live with that.
