I bought my daughter a Dell XPS 13 for Christmas 2008 (so it's just over a year old) and she loves it. She managed to corrupt Windows two months after she got it so I reinstalled Vista from the disks Dell shipped with it and she has not had a problem since. She has never said anything about it getting too hot.

On a personal note, I'm looking for a new laptop, around the 15" size that has a lighted/backlit keyboard and I'm looking at Dell's. Does anyone know of any other mfg that lights their keyboards other than the IBM's with their light at the top of the screen? Thanks.

Peter,
I'm no expert, but I have a Dell Latitude D620 duel core T2400@ 1.83GHz
processor w/ 1.99GB RAM, 60GB Hard drive. It's about 2 years old and I've
used other laptops that seem to get pretty warm...my Dell does not, infact I
barely hear a fan running where as, others "compaq for one, seem to have
very noticable fans and blow very warm air. My dell surprisingly barely gets
warm. with my experience using other brands I expected it to do the same,
but I think it's all relative to the type processor.
Gregg
