My HD is a IBM-DTLA-307015. I have it for about 1 year and a half, so, how
could it be failing?? This happened when I was waiting the signal from the
server to play Wolfenstein demo! Any explication for this to happened?
I went to IBM site and downloaded the Drive Fitness Test (version 2.30) and
run it. The test results were: "One or more bad sectors found. Please run
Erase Disk. Note: Erase Disk will delete all data on the disk drive. Return
code = 0x70"
I didnīt perform the Erase Disk because I hadnīt make the backup of HD yet.
I already suspected that I would had some bad sectors, but the scandisk
couldnīt mark them! Just one question, how could this happen?

Thanks!

José Rui.

I have never heard of a piece of software physically damaging a hard
drive...i suspect that your hard drive is starting to fail...if it is
new...return it...if not you can do a couple of things...you need to get a
little better hard disk utility than scan disk...scan disk has the tendency
to freeze up with the least amount of trouble...suggestion would be
something like Norton System Works...but the thing that i would do first is
back up all of your data that you can't stand to lose..then use your utility
to check the hard drive, & if that doesn't do it...replace it...

Hi!

I would like some help with this, if possible:

I did the download of the Return of Wolfenstein multiplayer Demo and after
the instalation and the choose of a server to play, my hard disk began to
make some loud noises, something like if it was trying to write but with no
luck and this in repetitive cycles! The only way I could stop it was to do a
restart. In the scandisk, when it tries to do a surface test( only in the
surface test!) it stops somewhere in the midlle and begin to make the same
noise in repetitive cycles! No need to say that I can only get out of there
by doing a restart and ignoring the scandisk! I canīt see any bad sectors,
since it does not have time to mark them!

What happened to my hard disk? Is it damaged? Is there any way a game could
do this to a piece of hardware?
How can I mark this sectors (in the case of the HD got damaged), so the
computer no more writes there?

Thank you very much!

José Rui.
