Jim,

When it comes to printers my thoughts are along the lines of Frank Suszka...
and this is one more of economics.   If the $150 for the repair is more in-line
with the pocketbook...  then that should be the decision.

However, if the extra $200 for a new unit is do-able...    I would remind them
that if they save the $200 and just repair the old unit for $150, they will
have a used printer with $150 invested in it, it will have no warranty and
the remainder of the printer not repaired will be worn parts waiting to fail.

You might also consider asking the repair shop that made the $150 quote
on the repair if they would buy the old unit as is for say $40 and apply
that to the purchase of the new unit.
