" It is so slow to respond that the windows progress meter says Time Remaining: 283 minutes. It wouldn't take that long on an old 486. I have used the Western Digital Utility to test the HDD, and it passes every test with flying colors. What
else should I be looking for? "

If your level2 cache is bad the performance can drop by half. To test enter BIOS Setup & disable L2 Cache. If it makes no difference then cache is already crippled.

If these boards have integrated video be sure to verify the BIOS is set to boot from the correct display device, AGP(onboard) or PCI(add-on). This can make a small difference.

If the board has integrated audio or LAN try disabling them in BIOS. In addition, I would consider running setup w/o any add-on cards. Less hardware will mean fewer
VXD files will be needed during setup.

If the memory is mismatched or misconfigured you will definitely experience problems. Double-check memory is showing correct total. If you're an advanced user change CAS latency in BIOS to conservative (3) or from (fast) to normal. Swap the memory with a good stick if you got it.

If the hard drive has already experienced multiple failed attempts try resetting the
main boot record. In DOS it is: ( FDISK /mbr).
